Tobey Solo Art Exhibition at NYC Pleiades Gallery Benefits American Cancer Society

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 18, 2007 -- Artist David Tobey's one-man exhibition of paintings, sculpture and giclées: "Driving Force", at Chelsea's Pleiades Gallery, 530 West 25th Street in New York, September 29th through October 13th will be a benefit show for the American Cancer Society. Thirty percent of the revenue from all sales of Tobey's paintings, sculpture and prints, during the entire run of the show through October 13th is going directly to benefit the ACS.

The show will open with an auction to be held in Westchester, NY, Tobey's home community. His painting "Reaching For The Cure", created by him specifically for the ACS and donated by him to them, will be auctioned off at their benefit "Evening of Jazz" on Thursday, September 27th at Le Chateau restaurant in South Salem, (Westchester County), NY -- at an event featuring live jazz and an auction of art by a number of local to internationally well-known artists. A full 100% of revenues from this auction will go to benefit the ACS.

The New York City reception at Pleiades for the Tobey exhibition will take place on Saturday afternoon, September 29th from 3 to 7 p.m., to which the public is cordially invited. Paintings in the exhibition will consist of work created by Tobey over the past three years that stylistically feature different levels of representation and abstraction. In the artist's own words, these paintings deal specifically with "the expansion and development of who I am as an artist." A number of Tobey's welded steel sculptures will also be in this exhibition

David Tobey started painting in his early childhood in the home & studio of his father, the well-known historical illustrator and muralist Alton S. Tobey. He also had a serious interest in music, fostered perhaps in no small part by his mother Rosalyn Tobey, who was a distinguished concert pianist. In his teens, David studied art at The Art Students League in New York and violin at The Music Conservatory of Westchester. He subsequently gained admission to The Juilliard School and graduated there with a performance degree in 1975.

He also holds a Master's degree in Studio Art from The College of New Rochelle, in the city where he currently lives with his family. David has had many one-man and group shows in Westchester County NY and in Connecticut, and this is his third New York solo exhibition. He has appeared on radio and on TV discussing his art, and his paintings have been published by Scafa, Ray Greengburg Modern Art and on CDs and record albums. In 2005 he had the honor of being named one of the Juilliard School's top 100 graduates in their 100 year history, with an image of his 2003 painting "Exuberance" in posters for the event at Lincoln Center. David has also recently been selected as a featured artist in the Manhattan Arts International Online Gallery.
